Privacy policy

This policy explains what data BookMatcher collects, why we collect it, how we use it, and the rights you have over it. We do not sell your personal data. We collect the minimum we need to give you good recommendations.

Data we collect

Account data. Email, display name, and (if you sign in with Google or Apple) the public identifiers those providers share with us.

Reading data. Quiz answers, books you save, books you rate, the lists you create, your follows, and your reading goals.

Library connections. If you connect Libby, we store the library identifiers needed to surface availability — not your card number or PIN.

Usage data. Anonymous analytics — pages visited, surfaces clicked, crash reports. We use Statsig and Vercel Analytics for this.

How we use it

• To generate personalized recommendations.
• To sync your data across iOS and web.
• To improve the product (aggregate analytics, no individual targeting).
• To contact you about account-critical changes (security, deletions).

Sharing & third parties

We share data with the minimum set of service providers needed to run the app: Supabase (database + auth), Vercel (hosting + analytics), Statsig (feature flags), OpenAI / Anthropic (LLM-powered recommendations), and email transactional providers. Each is contractually bound to handle your data only on our instructions.

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share it with advertisers.

Retention & deletion

Your data lives in your account until you delete it. Settings → Account → Delete account permanently removes your profile, lists, ratings, follows, and quiz history. We may retain anonymized aggregates for product analytics.

Your rights

You can export your data, correct it, restrict its processing, or delete it. Use Settings → Account, or email privacy@bookmatcher.app.

If you are in the EU or California, you have additional rights under GDPR / CCPA — including the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
