About this book

The play beings with two drama critics--Birdboot and Moon--sitting in a theatre boxat the premiere of an old-fashioned mystery melodrama. The play they are watching takes place in the drawing room of an Old Gothic mansion. Moon, a second-string drama critic suffering from extreme paranoia about his tenuous position, wishes his superior a slow but certain death. The other, Birdboot, is an established critic who is not above trading a good review for the favors of a desirable young actress. Both men are on assignment to review a classic thriller, complete with maids, revolvers, and dead bodies. The action on stage is interspersed with acerbic comments and asides from the critics, and it accelerates to exquisite insanity as both men become involved in the action.
